Military Artifact – MilArt

Overview

Welcome to the MilArt Blog, now under the banner of the Canadian Society of Military Medals and Insignia.  MilArt, an acronym for Military Artifact was originally published as a paper newsletter from 1996 to 1999 by , Clive M. Law, at which time it went dormant due to his other commitments with Service Publications. Even though collectors of Canadian militaria are well served by several collectors’ organizations, social media and internet fora, Clive felt that ready access, via the web, to quality articles would benefit our community. It was resurrected in 2013, this time in a blog format, to be the home for in-depth articles of interest to the Canadian military collectors and enthusiasts.

MilArt has advantages, allowing for colour images and lengthier texts than normally found in print journals and on many web sites. Some articles posted here were written exclusively for MilArt, while others have previously published in other formats. A number of topic categories have been set up and more will be added as needed.

With Clive’s passing in the summer 2017, Richard Law assumed ownership and continued supporting MilArt, making it accessible to the researcher and collector community as Service Publications under his management. In 2023, the Canadian Society of Military Medals and Insignia approached Richard and agreed to take over responsibility of the site. Bill Alexander assumed editor responsibilities for the blog, with the intention of continuing MilArt’s contribution to the collecting community.

MilArt continues to focus on all aspects of Canadian military artifacts and related topics. Articles with a Canadian focus are sought and welcome. To submit your article please send it to <milartcsmmi@gmail.com>. Articles are posted as time permits.

Please  browse the blog. Categories are listed on the menu bar above. Please leave evaluations and comments at the end of the articles that interest you. And, make sure to share the site with your friends and fellow collectors.

The CSMMI would like to thank Clive for establishing this excellent reference, and Richard for continuing to edit and manage MilArt among the other demands of career and life.

Thanks,

Bill Alexander
